Botanical source: Commiphora myrrha
Plant part used: The oleoresin
Origin: Somalia
Production: Sustainably wild-harvested
Extraction method: Steam distillation

Note: Note that Myrrh oil is viscous and solid at colder temperatures, and may not pour properly from the dropper. It will liquefy when the bottle is warmed up, e.g. with warm water in a saucepan. Removing the dropper with a paring knife before use will also help in pouring.

Fragrance profile: Rich, balsamic sweet-wood notes with a hint of spicy top notes

Properties: Centering, restoring, calming

Chinese medicine function: To brace the Kidney, astringe fluids, resolve damp and stop discharge

Fragrance energy: Woody, pungent
Movement course: Gathering, rising
Warmth effect: Neutral
Tone effect: Restorative
Channel tropism: Kidney, Bladder, Lung, Spleen, Large Intestine, Dai
Five-Element affinity: Water, Earth, Metal

In Chinese Medicine: With its strong gathering, woody-pungent character, Myrrh braces and stabilises the Lower Jiao. It tonifies Kidney Qi rather than Kidney Yang, and it resolves turbid damp across all three Jiao, most particularly the Lower.

Chinese Medicine functions adapted from Peter Holmes, L.Ac., M.H., Channeling Fragrance. The full profile — treatment patterns, acupoint combinations and synergist oils — is in the book.

Complementary blending: Atlas cedarwood, Siam wood, Frankincense, Sandalwood, Juniper berry, Mandarin, Geranium, Lavender, Patchouli, Thyme linalool, Pine and spice oils such as Cardamom in general

For external use only. Properly dilute all essential oils in lotion or vegetable carrier oil before massage or other topical use. Keep out of reach of children.
