Botanical name: Melaleuca quinqenervia ct. cineol
Plant part: The leaf
Origin: Madagascar
Production: Cultivated and certified organic
Extraction: Steam distillation of the fresh leaves and twigs
Fragrance profile: A delightful interplay of fresh-spicy, lemony and sweet-green notes; vaguely similar to Tea tree but less 'medicinal' in fragrance and more complex and therefore more interesting.
Psychological function: Niaouli is similar to Tea tree, Saro, Palmarosa, Thyme linalool and others in its anti-infective, immune stimulant and antiseptic action against pathogens. Niaouli can also be used as a fresh mind/brain tonic for mental deficiencies.
Topical use: Excellent in dilution for rheumatic-arthritic conditions because of its analgesic and anti-inflammatory actions, e.g. with the similar-acting Rosemary, Cajeput and Frankincense.
